Shopify and Amazon inventory sync in India: how to keep one stock number

Three ways sellers sync stock between Shopify, Amazon.in and Flipkart, why the warehouse should own the number, and what a good sync pushes.

If you sell the same product on your own Shopify store and on Amazon.in (and maybe Flipkart), you have one stock pool and two or three places claiming a count of it. Inventory sync is the work of keeping those counts honest.

The three ways sellers do it

ApproachWhat it looks likeWhat breaks
ManualUpload a stock file each morning and eveningAnything sold between uploads
Marketplace-to-marketplace pluginA tool copies one channel's count to the otherNeither channel knows the real warehouse stock
Warehouse as the source of truthThe WMS owns stock, and pushes a number to each channelNeeds the WMS to be accurate, which is the point

The third approach is the only one that survives sale days, because the number that matters is the one on the shelf, not the one a storefront last saw.

What a good sync pushes

  1. Available stock: on hand minus what's already allocated to open orders.
  2. A safety buffer: a few units held back for damages, offline orders and counting errors.
  3. A channel share: if you'd rather Amazon never takes more than 60% of a SKU, say so.
  4. A zero threshold: below a minimum, show zero everywhere instead of risking a cancellation.

Orders flow the other way

Sync isn't only stock going out. Orders come in through webhooks (Shopify) or polling (Amazon), and need to be matched to your own SKU codes, including bundles that are really several products. Anything that can't be matched should be parked with a reason, not dropped. Waretech keeps every marketplace order in a sync ledger so you can fix and requeue it.

Don't forget the paperwork and status

  • Invoices: Amazon may expect your invoice against each order. Upload it automatically.
  • Tracking: push the AWB back to the channel so customers see their tracking.
  • Cancellations: if a customer cancels, stock should return to the pool.

How Waretech does it

Waretech connects to Shopify and Amazon (10 marketplaces including Amazon.in), with Flipkart in early access. Stock rules are set per channel connection, and the warehouse stays the source of truth. Book a demo to see it on your own SKUs.
